Man left with 'life-threatening' injuries on rail line near Smethwick as emergency services called
A man was taken to hospital with injuries described as life-changing and life-threatening after emergency services crews were called to reports of a casualty on a rail line near Smethwick.
Officers from British Transport Police and paramedic crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to reports of a casualty on the tracks near St Pauls Road in Smethwick at around 5am.
The line was closed off between Stourbridge and Birmingham while crews worked to help a man, who they found to have life-threatening injuries.
He received advanced trauma care at the scene and was conveyed under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called at around 5am today (25 June) to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Smethwick area.
"Officers responded with paramedics and a person was taken to hospital.
"Their condition is being treated as life-threatening and life-changing.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.13am to an incident on the tracks nearby to St Pauls Road in Smethwick.
"Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended the scene.
"Upon arrival we found a man with life-threatening injuries.
"He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene which continued en route to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was conveyed under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment.”
