'All you could see was smoke - it was hard to breathe': Wolverhampton residents talk about the severe house fire that left three people needing hospital treatment

Neighbours have described scenes of chaos after a house fire in Wolverhampton that left three people needing treatment.

Four crews from Dudley, Wolverhampton, Oldbury and Tettenhall responded to reports of a blaze on Blakeley Avenue, Wolverhampton, at around 3.10pm on Tuesday. 

The fire took place in a two-store property on the road, causing extensive fire damage to the first floor of the building and devastating the roof. 

Eight people were evacuated from the blaze, including one person from a neighbouring property, with three people being transported to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Residents have now described the scenes of chaos during the incident, with some saying that they had 'never seen anything like it'.

One resident of the road, who didn't want to be named, said: "It was horrible, you've never seen anything like it. 

"There was smoke everywhere, it was actually quite hard to breathe at the time. You can only hope everyone in the house is okay." 

A dog and three cats were also rescued from the fire by firefighters, with structural engineers making the building safe once the flames were doused.

Thomas Morris, 54, a resident near the address, said: "You could see the smoke and flames over the back of my house. It looked really bad. 

"I didn't want to go near it, just in case. But I knew it was bad with how many fire engines there were. It's horrible."

Two ambulances attended the scene, including paramedic officers and a Hazardous Area Response Team.

Louise Marshall, 37, who lives near the address, said: "I just told the kids to close their windows, it's all you can really do. 

"There was smoke everywhere. You don't believe how much smoke these fires create really. It's really bad. I heard three people were taken to hospital, I hope they're okay."
