'Maybe now I can finally hang up my coat' - Much-loved Wolverhampton scout leader is honoured

A much-loved scout leader in Wolverhampton was honoured twofold at the weekend.

First Fordhouses group named their re-opened scout hut The Brian Walters Scouting Activity Centre in honour of the man whose name it now bears.

It has been named after Brian Walters who has been recognised for 50 years service to the Scouts. With him at the front is: Beaver and Scout: Evie 7 and Oliver 8 Fletcher. And with them in the group isDonna Hubbard (Group Leader) and County Leader: James Steel. He has also had the bench in his honour too.

Brian, aged 85, combined the 36th and 43rd Wolverhampton troops 50 years ago to create the 1st Fordhouses group, which meet at the Bee Lane Scout HQ in Fordhouses. He was a scout leader until 1991 and became both the group and Wolverhampton North district chairman in 2016. He remains as president of the Fordhouses group.

The group have spent the last year fundraising to refurbish the hut which needed a new kitchen and central heating. They were successful in doing so and have also added a much needed disabled toilet and insulation.
