Cannabis with street value of up to £21k seized at Wolverhampton house
A man was caught minding a cannabis factory set up in a house near Wolverhampton city centre.
Jentor Dani, aged 32, pleaded guilty to one offence of being concerned in the production of cannabis at an address in Dunkley Street, Whitmore Reans on March 5 this year.
The defendant spoke only to confirm his name at the sentencing hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.(19)
Judge Michael Chambers told him: "Jetnor Dani you are 32-years-old. You are and Albanian national who has entered the UK illegally and therefore had not right to work or any prospect of employment. On March 5, 2025 police officers went to Dunkley Street in Wolverhampton where they found that you were maintaining a substantial cannabis operation.
"Inside two rooms there were relating to it. in the loft there were 25 mature plants with an estimated street worth of up to £21,000. The usual equipment was found and the electricity had been bypassed. You were found in possession of notebooks showing an expenditure list for setting up the operation. In my judgement when applying the sentencing guideline regime, which I am required to do, you were playing a significant role.
"You must have had some awareness and understanding of the scale of it, this was a substantial operation, you gained by being provided with accommodation and you clearly had an operational function. I take into account the comments in the pre-sentence report about your personal circumstances."
"Having regard to your role and the aggravating factors, if there had been a trial the appropriate sentence would have been 15 months."
Dani, who has links to Middlesborough, was jailed for 12 months. The judge said he must serve half the term before being released on licence subject to his immigration status.
He ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the plants and equipment.
