Oil spill after crash shuts lane on M5 near West Bromwich

A lane was closed to traffic on the M5 near West Bromwich after a crash caused an oil spill.

The collision took place on the southbound carriageway just before Junction 1 on Monday (June 16) morning.

A National Highways spokeswoman said: "There was an oil spill during the collision which needed to be cleared to prevent damage to the road surface. 

"One lane was closed for this but the road was fully open at around 9.30am."

The crash caused traffic to tail back onto the M6, adding to the congestion leading up to Junction 8.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was not called to the scene of the collision.
