'Little slice of history' - Georgian townhouse in Walsall to go under hammer at auction
A Georgian townhouse in Walsall described as a 'a little slice of history' is set to go under the hammer in a live-streamed auction next month.
7 Lower Rushall Street in Walsall is one of a trio of properties that were once part of the Eyland & Sons factory, one of the town’s oldest companies that used to make buckles and spectacles.
The property is now a restored Grade II-listed house with four bedrooms and will have a guide price of £125,000+ in the livestreamed auction on Thursday, July 10.
Gurpreet Bassi, chief executive of Bond Wolfe, explained that the three-storey property was built around 1800 and is one in a row of three remaining from a once longer terrace, with the others demolished in the 1930s.

He said the trio were listed because of their historic interest and design, with good-quality decorative finishes.
Mr Bassi said: “This historic house is a property with a story behind it, which will make it even more attractive to many potential buyers.
“The price reflects the fact that it needs some modernisation, and we expect highly competitive bidding on auction day.”

Moses Eyland founded the spectacle-making firm Eyland & Sons in 1760, later expanding into saddler’s ironmongery, buckle manufacturing, gilding and electroplating.
Buildings at the rear of the terrace were known as the Buckle Works and later turned into housing as Eyland Grove.
Since they were listed in 1986, the terraced workshops on Lower Rushall Street have been sympathetically restored and the original windows and door openings reinstated.
Number 7 is the middle terrace, standing back from the road, with a hall, reception room, dining kitchen and toilet on the ground floor, a landing, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and two further bedrooms off the second floor landing.

There is a yard to the rear and access to communal parking bays., and the property benefits from having an electric storage heating system.
The Lower Rushall Street house will be among scores of lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next auction which is due to start at 8.30am on Thursday, July 10.
The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
