Customers at the new Aldi store this morning were as good as 'Gold' as they queued for free bags of fresh fruit and vegetables and got the chance to meet a Paralympic champion.
Megan Richter from Birmingham gave away produce from the store's Super 6 range to the first 30 lucky customers as she joined in the celebrations at the news store Oldbury Green Retail Park with store manager Donna Galbraith and her team of 35 colleagues from the local community.

Megan won the paratriathlon at last year's Summer Paralympics in Paris and was on hand to cut the ribbon on the new store at 8am, bring along her Gold medal for excited early-bird shoppers to view
Her attendance at the much anticipated supermarket opening came as part of Aldi’s partnership with Paralympics GB.

She said: “I was so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it was great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Paralympics GB.”

Aldi says the new store will offer more customers access to Aldi’s high quality, low-price products. Last year marked the fourth year in a row that the supermarket has been named the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket by Which?

The new store at Oldbury is also encouraging charities and food banks in the area to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.
Charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week - details on how to do this are below.

The first 30 customers through the doors were promised complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range.
