Appeal launched following motorbike theft from Tamworth pub car park

An appeal has been launched to find the people responsible for stealing a motorbike from outside a pub in Tamworth.

Staffordshire Police have launched the appeal following the theft, which happened outside the Red Lion on Lichfield Road in Hopwas on Wednesday, May 28.

The force said the MGB Fantasy 125cc white, black and red bike was taken by a group of five men, all wearing balaclavas, and taken down Plantation Lane with two other bikes.

It said the bike was later abandoned on a towpath near Tamworth Audi on the A453, with the rider seen making off on foot towards woodland and the other suspects heading towards Cardinal Point retail park.

Staffordshire Police said the recovered bike was undergoing forensic examination and asked for anyone with any information to get in touch.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a motorbike was stolen from a pub car-park in Tamworth.

"We were called at 6.45pm on Wednesday, May 28 to The Red Lion on Lichfield Road in Hopwas following reports of a theft. 

"A group of five men, each wearing balaclavas, were seen taking the MGB Fantasy 125cc white, black and red bike and travelling in convoy with another two bikes in the direction of Plantation Lane. 

"The bike was later found abandoned on a towpath near the Coventry canal, off the A453, near Tamworth Audi. The rider made off on foot in the direction of nearby woodlands. 

"The other suspects left the scene in the direction of the B&Q at Cardinal Point retail park.

"The recovered bike is undergoing forensic testing while our inquiries continue. 

"During our investigation, officers discovered that one of the other motorbikes the group were using had been stolen from Sutton Coldfield recently. 

"We have made inquiries locally about CCTV footage and are keen to speak to anyone who saw the group travelling in the area after the theft.

"Anyone with information or dashcam footage should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 592 of 28 May.
