In pictures: Willenhall Carnival branded a success as 1,500 people brave the elements to enjoy funfair, dog competition and other attractions
More than 1,5000 hardy souls braved the rain to enjoy the Willenhall Carnival today (Saturday)
More than 4,000 turned out last year and basked in the blazing sun. However, organiser Wayne Palmer still branded the carnival a success.
Willenhall Memorial Park has packed with fair rides, stalls, games, a grandstand which hosted entertainment from a variety of local troupes, dancers and bands.
Wayne said: "It has taken seven months planning this year's Willenhall Carnival. We ere in the park at 5am and it was absolutely hammering it down. However, it seemed to clear up in the morning and then just as the Mayor was about to officially open the carnival at 11am the heavens opened. "
However, families still enjoyed the carnival dog show which saw pooches being marked on obedience, completing an assault course as they tried to keep attention on the competition lead.

"However, due to the weather being so bad and so many people turning up and enjoying themselves means today was a success. One thing is for sure, there will be a Willenhall Carnival next year, I will be working hard to make sure Willenhall has the best carnival ever next year.
"The Willenhall Beauty Queen will be making a return as well, I know it is a tradition which some people think is outdated but we need a Willenhall Beauty Queen because so much charity work is not being done because there has not been a Queen."
