'Truly humbling' - Former Walsall star Jimmy sees first hand the work of the hospice he raises money for
Former Walsall goalkeeper Jimmy Walker said he was 'humbled' to see the work of the Acorns Hospice after handing over a charity cheque.
Jimmy - known as 'Wacka' organised a golf day at Walsall Golf Club in May which raised in total more than £4,500 to be split three ways. It featured many of his former colleagues and Walsall FC heroes including Kyle Lightbourne, Kevin Wilson, David Kelly and Derek Mountfield.
The money was divided between Walsall based Acorns Hospice, his JW23 foundation and a trip to Disneyworld for Tyler Poston, an 11-year-old who suffers from the blood cancer T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

After handing over the cheque, Jimmy, who made over 450 appearances for the Saddlers, was shown around the hospice which provides specialist care for youngster with life limited or threatening illnesses and support for their family.

He said: "It was truly humbling to meet the staff and the people in their and their families - to see what goes on every day to help people in unfortunate situations.
"I was honoured to be able to hand over part of the money to the trustees, as the majority of the funds Acorns needs comes from fundraising by external sources and charity events.”
"The golf day was one of the best yet in terms of the turnout, the weather and the money raised for Acorns, Tyler who is very deserving of it and to support the foundation as well, which goes from strength to strength.
"I would just like to thank everyone who turned out and those who helped organise it alongside me - I enjoyed a great career in football and if I can give back in small ways then it was worthwhile."
