Police probe shooting near a Birmingham primary school that left man with gunshot wounds
Police have launched an investigation following a shooting near a school in Birmingham which left a man with gunshot wounds in his leg.
West Midlands Police has launched an investigation into a shooting in which a man in his 20s received a gunshot wound to his leg.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of Heathfield Road, Handsworth, following reports of shots being fired at two men at around 2.30am on Monday.
Police were alerted by ambulance colleagues, who discovered that a man in his 20s had suffered a gunshot wound at the scene which is near Heathfield Primary School.
The man was quickly treated for the injuries before being conveyed to hospital for injuries to his leg that 'aren't believed to be life-threatening'.
A second man was not injured in the incident.
Now, police have launched an investigation into the incident, asking anyone with information to contact them via their 101 number, or alternatively on the Live Chat service on their website, quoting log number 20/252789/25.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We are investigating after a man was injured after shots were fired at two men in Heathfield Road, Handsworth in the early hours of today (Monday).
"We were alerted by ambulance colleagues at around 2.30am to a man in his 20s who had suffered a gunshot wound.
"The man was treated and taken to hospital by paramedics with an injury to his leg which is not believed to be life-threatening.
"A second man was not injured."
West Midlands Police investigators remained on the scene for the majority of Monday morning with the force saying that extra officers will be near the scene to help with residents' concerns.
The spokesperson added: "Officers are carrying out extensive investigations to establish who is responsible with house-to-house enquiries being undertaken and CCTV being retrieved and reviewed.
"We know incidents like this can be concerning and there will be officers in the area as the investigation progresses as well as to offer reassurance to the community."
