'All is well': West Midlands lawyer accused of money laundering allegations posts on social media
Former West Midlands Mayoral candidate and lawyer Akhmed Yakoob is facing court over money laundering allegations.
Lawyer and former West Midlands Mayoral candidate Akhmed Yakoob, aged 37, is due to appear before magistrates next month.
Yakoob, who has Aldridge links, stood as an independent candidate for both the West Midlands mayoral election and the general election in 2024, and accountant Nabeel Afzal, aged 38, each face three criminal charges.
Yakoob and Azfal, of Edgbaston, are accused of money laundering, encouraging money laundering and contravening a requirement to apply customer due diligence measures when establishing a business relationship relating to the period February 18, 2020 and January 8, 2021.
The National Crime Agency issued a statement about the charges on May 21.

Posting on social media network Tik Tok five days ago, Yakoob told his 211,000 followers: "Today's newspapers are only going to be used to wrap up tomorrow's bag of chips. All is well. Alhamdulillah. Remember that."
Yakoob unsuccessfully stood in Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood’s Birmingham Ladywood constituency on a pro-Palestinian campaign ticket in the last general election, coming second with 12,137 votes compared to her 15,558, and came third in the West Midlands mayoral election with 69,621 votes. He was backed by former independent MP George Galloway, who was mobbed when made an appearance in Birmingham to support him in April last year.
This was followed by his campaign launch in Tipton.
He also represented two brothers who were involved in an incident involving Greater Manchester Police officers at Manchester Airport in July 2024.
Yakoob, of Perry Barr, is due appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on June 17.
