Witnesses urged to come forward after teenager stabbed at Birmingham New Street

Police are urging witnesses to come forward after a teenage boy was stabbed at Birmingham New Street on Monday night.

Officers were called to the train station at around 8pm yesterday (May 19) following reports of violent disorder involving a group of teenagers. 

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene where they treated a teenage boy who was stabbed before conveying him to hospital. 

His injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

No arrests have been made in connection at this time.

Detectives investigating the incident have made the appeal asking anyone who was at the train station and might have seen something to come forward. 

Detective Inspector Connor Towes said: “There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network, and detectives are working at pace to investigate this incident. Passengers will see an increased police presence at the station while officers carry out their enquiries.

“We know the station was busy at the time of the incident and many people may have seen what happened or the events leading up to it, so we are urging anyone with information to get in touch and assist us with our enquiries.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 614 of May 19.

The action comes as part of Knife Crime Awareness Week, a nationwide campaign that raises awareness of the people and organisations working to prevent knife crime across the UK.
