Hundreds attend poignant event to mark 80th anniversary of Wednesfield Lancaster bomber crash

Hundreds of people have taken part in a poignant memorial ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of the tragic Lancaster bomber crash in Wolverhampton.

Councillors, residents and family members of those who died when a Lancaster bomber crashed in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, killing all seven crew members, attended a memorial ceremony on Saturday in the airmen's honour. 

The Lancaster RF 124 crashed on May 17th 1945, just nine days after VE Day, while taking part in a routine training exercise from East Kirby Airfield, sadly killing all on board.

Now, a special remembrance service has taken place on Lichfield Road, Wednesfield, in which relatives of the crew members, civic dignitaries, and members of the public attended to pay tribute to the airmen who died. 

The remembrance service was organised by the Wednesfield History Society, with lay minister, Terry Braithwaite, leading the services on the day.
