Woman's body found in Bilston pool - police investigating 'unexplained' death

Police responded to reports of a body being found in in open water in Bilston this morning.

Officers rushed to the scene in Proud's Lane, Bilston, at around 9am on Friday (May 9) to reports of a woman being found in the water.

Firefighters and paramedics attended the scene, however, it was found that nothing could be done to save the woman. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

West Midlands Police investigators have said that they are treating the death as 'unexplained', with officers continuing to investigate the circumstances.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The body of a woman was found in a pool off Proud's Lane, Bilston, at around 9am.

"We attended along with the fire service and paramedics, but the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained as we continue enquiries to establish what has happened."

West Midlands Ambulance Service colleagues also attended the scene, sending an air ambulance to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at the junction of Moseley Road and Prouds Lane in Bilston at 9.03am and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, our Hazardous Area Response Team and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

"On arrival, crews found a woman in a critical condition and immediately began administering advanced life support.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save her, and she was confirmed deceased at the scene."
