Bilston care home holds 1940s street party with special BGT finalist singer to celebrate VE day
Residents of a Wolverhampton care home have had a fun-filled day of celebration and remembrance to mark Victory in Europe Day.
Hampton Court Care Home in Bilston was transformed into a 1940s street party setting to commemorate VE Day - the official anniversary is on May 8 and marks the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Residents and their families enjoyed activities, singalongs and games while enjoying the nostalgic setting, complete with bunting, music and of course a traditional fish and chip lunch.

The festivities began with a special performance by singer Pippa Langhorne, a former Britain's Got Talent finalist.

To top of the great British celebration, staff were dressed in red, white and blue, 1940s vintage attire, and military uniforms.

The event included a touching tribute in the form of a display of wartime memories, as residents shared their own personal stories and reflections from the 1940s.

A number of events are being held across the region to commemorate the 80th anniversary of WWII in Europe.
The annual celebration of VE Day on May 8 - the day that Nazi Germany surrendered to the allied forces in 1945 - carries an extra meaning this year, being 80 years since the end of the war in Europe.
