Man, 18, arrested after woman in her 50s left in serious condition
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Smethwick.
West Midlands Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman received head injuries after being attacked at a property in Smethwick.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a wasteland near Smethwick Galton Bridge Railway Station shortly after 3.30am on Tuesday to reports that a woman had been attacked at a property nearby.
On arrival, West Midlands Police discovered the woman in her 50s who had sustained head injuries.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Officers have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman received head injuries after being attacked at a property in Smethwick.
"The arrest was made on wasteland close to Smethwick Galton Bridge train station shortly after 3.30am today (Tues). The woman is believed to have been attacked at a property nearby."
Investigating officers have said that the woman was rushed to hospital in a 'serious but stable' condition and that the 18-year-old man and victim are known to each other, with no further suspects being sought at this stage'.
The spokesperson said: "A woman, in her 50s, was taken to hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition.
"They are known to each other and at this stage, we are not looking for anyone else as part of the investigation."
Platform 1 at Smethwick Galton Bridge was also closed following concerns for the welfare of man.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called by the police to Smethwick Galton Bridge Railway Station at 3.40am following concerns for the welfare of a man.
"One ambulance attended the scene. The patient had superficial injuries and was discharged on scene."
An investigation into the incident is still currently ongoing.
