Annual pancake race set to bring day of flipping fun to Stafford
An annual pancake race is set to bring thousands of people to the streets of Stafford to see teams compete to be the fast flippers in town.
Teams have been gearing up for the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake race in Stafford on Tuesday.
Local businesses, organisations, and groups are taking part in the popular competition, which gets underway in the town’s Market Square from midday.
The event is organised by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Stafford Council and has proved to be a popular annual showpiece with lots of residents, shoppers and visitors looking on as the teams of four compete to be the best ‘flippers’ in town.
The event is free to enter with teams encouraged to compete in fancy dress and the winners receive an honorary frying pan, while the losers will receive the wooden spoon.
A number of teams have registered to be on the start line at 12.30pm, including MOD Stafford, The Stafford Building Society and Bizarre Balloons.

The Mayor of Stafford Borough, Councillor Frank James, will get the event underway and will be handing out the prizes.
Laura Morris, from Freedom Leisure, said: “This is a popular fun event in the heart of the county town and we are looking forward to crowning the Pancake Flipping Champions of 2025 who will receive the coveted winners frying pan.
“And not only is it totally free to enter, it free to come along and watch.”
