Guilty: Treasurer defrauded church and scouts groups out of £170k
A man has pleaded guilty to stealing £170,000 from a church and two Scouts groups for which he was a treasurer.
Desmond Rodgers, of Hough Way in Shifnal, siphoned the money from the organisations' bank accounts to make transactions relating to cryptocurrency.
The 51-year-old, who had initially denied theft offences at a previous hearing, instead admitted three counts of fraud by abuse of position when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Tuesday (January 28).
The case relates to the removal of £126,000 from St Andrew's Church, in Church Street, Shifnal; £28,000 from Madeley Scouts and £16,000 from Shifnal Scouts, between January and September 2023.
