A man has been taken to hospital after suffering burns in the fire which broke out on King Street, near to Lewisham Road, on Wednesday (January 1) afternoon.

It happened at the site of a business just one mile away from West Bromwich Albion's Hawthorns stadium, where the team were playing against Preston in a New Year's Day match.

A total of four fire engines were initially called to the scene at about 1.45pm, with residents urged to avoid the area.

A West Midlands Fire Service control spokeswoman has since confirmed the blaze involved propane gas cylinders and lithium batteries.
