West Midlands dubbed 'England and Wales crime hotspot' despite drop in figures
Recent figures have dubbed the West Midlands the 'crime hotspot' of England and Wales despite figures showing a reduction in crime
Get Licensed, a Security Industry Association (SIA) licence group, has dubbed the West Midlands as the 'crime hotspot of England and Wales' despite recent police figures showing a reduction in overall crime.
The report examined monthly crime data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and UK Crime Stats to reveal the regions with the highest crime figures throughout the year.
In the statistics, the group ranked the West Midlands as the worst-hit region in England and Wales for crime, reporting that on average 200.9 people out of 1,000 experienced crime of some type between the years 2013 and 2024.
The research was further broken down by the group, Get Licensed, which said that the most prolific crime in the region was possession of weapon offences, with the group reporting 2.16 crimes per 1,000 people.
Talking about the figures, the group said: "Crime trends in England and Wales show interesting patterns, with higher crime rates in the summer and in urban areas. SIA Security licensing plays a key role here, ensuring that trained professionals are in place to help maintain public safety and deter crime.
