Emergency services were sent to the scene on Bristol Road South, near Witherford Way, in Bournville on Thursday.

The incident happened at around 10.30pm.

A mental health triage car based at Bournville Lane police station, with a paramedic, police officer and mental health nurse on board, arrived at the scene within two minutes of the call.

An ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor also attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The driver of the car, a man, was in a serious condition following a collision with a tree.

"Ambulance staff immediately began to administer trauma care to the man.

"Despite the best efforts of ambulance staff, police and fire colleagues nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead a short time later at the scene.”
