Take a look at Wolverhampton's canalside vision of the future bringing 600 new homes to city

Restaurants, cafes, bars and outdoor events areas also feature in the ambitious plans.

The new vision for canalside living in the heart of the city has been revealed at an event in Cannes, with council bosses looking to showcase their ideas.

It follows yesterday's unveiling of plans for the Westside area.

This latest artist's impression, which depicts the area close to the railway line and along the Birmingham Canal Old Main Line in the Cornhill area, reveals the extent of the area's transformation.

Restaurants, homes and open spaces line the waterway, which currently houses a converted mill as well as blocks of flats.

New offices and workspaces as well as a new marina development and even the building of a micro-brewery are also being considered as part of the plans.

New LED featuring lighting could also be installed within canal tunnels to illuminate the passing boats and canoes.

Now, the proposals are being showcased to investors and developers at the international property forum in France.

City of Wolverhampton council deputy leader and cabinet member for city housing and assets, Councillor Peter Bilson, said: "The new image gives us a glimpse of how spectacular this area of the city could look.

"The partnership is working together to bring about a nationally significant development at this wonderful heritage location."

Cheryl Blount-Powell, manager for the Midlands and North West, Canal & River Trust, added: "Wolverhampton's Canalside certainly has a very exciting future ahead."
