Caldmore school installs £10k fence to shield pupils from yobs
A school has spent around £10,000 on a fence to shield pupils from yobs urinating and defecating in an alleyway.
The walkway linking Carless Street and Brace Street in Caldmore has become a hive of anti-social behaviour as well as a hot spot for fly-tipping.
A number of measures have been taken to combat the problems.
Meshing has been put up to stop rubbish being dumped while CCTV has also been installed in the area.
Caldmore Village Primary School has put up the wooden fence and Caldmore Community House has also introduced security cameras of its own.
A council report has stated the issues are decreasing.
Councillor Aftab Nawaz, who represents Caldmore, said: "We have had various issues there in regards of a lot of littering, a lot of fly-tipping, and also people standing around drinking alcohol and getting intoxicated. As a result they are urinating and even defecating there.
"It is really horrible and a major issue for the people living nearby.
"It is happening constantly and they are really fed up. The authorities need to keep working together to tackle the problems.
"I hope the cameras have an effect but in the past sometimes we have had cameras that are not working."
