Charity fund set up after West Bromwich Albion's Chris Brunt hit by coin reaches £5,000

A charity fund set up by Baggies fans after midfielder Chris Brunt was hit by a coin has reached more than £5,000.

The fund was set up last Monday by life-long-fan Debbie Green.

Debbie and fellow fans were at Albion's home game against Crystal Palace on Sunday with buckets appealing for cash.

The Albion Foundation and Acorns Hospice will receive the money.

Debbie, aged 54 from Derby, said: "The support from fans has been brilliant. I have had messages from fans from other teams saying how good it is what we are doing,

"It proves Albion fans aren't bad."

Club spokesman Martin Swain has lauded the initiative set up by fans.

He said: "It is a fantastic fans initiative and is certainly appreciated by the club.

"It is great to see it so well supported

"We have tried to give them all the help they can.
