The vehicles were targeted during the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Silkmore, Highfields and Rising Brook areas of the borough.

Police believe the attacks are linked. The first incident was reported at 3.35am.

Jessica Sharratt, whose 17-year-old brother Matthew had windows of his blue Citroen smashed in on Bagots Oak, said: "It was parked on the road and had the windows smashed in. To us it looks like a crow bar because of the markings.

"It's my brother's car, he's only had it a month. He's only 17 and is a bit distressed by it all."

In Morton Road, Lucy Bullmore's finance Jason Hornby, aged 40, had a window of his work van smashed.

Ms Bullmore said: "We didn't come out until about 10 to six in the morning and that's when we saw it.

"Jason had a look around and saw that another car on Poplar road had had its windows smashed in. It's annoying, Jason lost a days wages because of it as he works in Birmingham.

"A couple of years ago some cars had their tyres slashed but not us. That's the only thing that has happened before."

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old university student also had a window smashed on her car on Penkvale Road.

Her mother, who did not want to be named, said: "Obviously she's upset, she's at university training to be a nurse so this is an expense she didn't need.

"It is a bit scary that it took place so close to the house. We didn't hear anything and had no idea it had happened."

A Staffordshire police spokesman said: "Officers have been dealing with multiple cases of criminal damage to vehicles.

"Twelve vehicles were damaged by unknown offenders. The vehicles had smashed windows more than anything."
