More than 1,000 students from Haybridge High School in Hagley lined up to pull the most Christmas crackers in a human chain link.

It was to raise money for Kidderminster-based charity Crackerjacks which provides support to disabled children.

The event raised £1,100 and was organised by Amanda Hopkins, charity event co-ordinator.

She said: "I organised the event to raise awareness of the charity and the work that they do.

"The record for the most crackers pulled before was 789." The students each paid £1 to take part. To break the record, they needed to break every cracker in the chain. And they did against all the odds, which was met with delightful cheer.

Official confirmation is still needed from Guinness World Records but paperwork submitted from stewards show that all crackers were broken.
