WATCH: Broad Street blaze sees Cineworld and Nandos evacuated

This footage shows the dramatic scenes as a cinema in Birmingham's Broad Street was evacuated after an external sign caught fire last night.

Crowds gathered as hundreds of cinema-goers were evacuated from Cineworld and a nearby Nando's restaurant.

The fire which was located above the restaurant took hold shortly before 6pm on Sunday evening.

Shocked onlookers were quickly evacuated from restaurants Tiger Bills and Nando's below, as well as the popular cinema in the Five Ways Leisure Complex.

Emergency services arrived quickly on the scene and area was cordoned off.

Debris from the sign and panels at the top of the building could be seen falling to the ground as firefighters worked to put the fire out.

Eyewitnesses reported flames leaping upwards from the building and smouldering debris falling below.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said that firefighters from Ladywood and Highgate stations tackled the fire.

The flames were extinguished within half an hour and damping down took place.
