The group was set up in 1986 to work with and support unpaid family carers. It is there to try and avoid family breakdowns in caring situations.

It reaches people caring for a relative, partner or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.

In the financial year 2013/14, the charity responded to more than 2,400 requests for assistance, working with more than 400 carers.

Bosses are asking for the cash to help with the costs of outings and visiting activity leaders. Money is also needed to support ongoing costs of the charity.

It would mead the group could reach out to more carers in the area.

Last year the charity received £524.35 in cash in the Cash For Your Community competition to help with the running, transport and activity costs.

Activities the group offers carers include social outings like meals out and trips to the cinema and theatre.

Coffee breaks are also held to provide emotion support to carers.
