Acorns Children's Hospice

Walsall based children's hospice Acorns are looking for funding to help provide sick children with a short break.

The hospice support over 190 children and 270 families across the Black Country, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

The children who receive help can be up to 18 years of age and all suffer from life threatening conditions which require them to have support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The hospice doesn't just offer care to children in need, it also provides support for their families to help them cope with the demands of caring for their child and offers support after bereavement.

To make the most of the time families have with their children, Acorns works to provide short breaks for youngsters, where they can be cared for in a safe environment.

Each break costs £750 a day and allows the child to use Acorns facilities, its play and craft areas and take part in fun filled activities.

Children who get to take a break with Acorns get their own bedroom, personal 24 hour care and the opportunity to experience things they wouldn't do in their own time.

Activities include trips to the cinema, massages and sessions in a sensory room.

During this time, their families can take a break from the strains of providing constant care, safe in the knowledge their child is being looked after.
