Man dies in crash on A449 in Staffordshire
A man has died after a crash between a car and a HGV in Staffordshire in the early hours of this morning.




It happened on the on the A449 Southbound, near Coven and junction 2 of the M54 at around 4.45am.
The crash involved a silver Vauxhall Zafira and an articulated lorry that was parked overnight in a layby.
The 41-year-old male driver of the Zafira, from the Wolverhampton area, died at the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker, said: "Crews arrived to a car that had been in a serious collision with a HGV that was parked in a lay-by.
"The man driving the car had suffered multiple serious injuries, and sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
"No other person was injured in the crash."
The A449 was this morning closed in both directions at Coven between Junction 2 of the M54 and the A5 at Gailey.
The road was closed for more than eight hours until around 1pm while investigations took place.
Specialist collision investigation officers examined the scene and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue attended to support the recovery operation.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses and anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact CMPG Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting incident 124 of September 12.
