Bellway's Lakeside development has transformed the former Lucas Electrical factory on Walkmill Lane into a development of 205 new homes, which include 15 affordable houses and six affordable apartments.

The factory had been disused for three years before Bellway purchased the site in 2008 and the development has proved to be popular with young buyers looking for their first home.

Prime Minister David Cameron recently visited the site to mark the success of the government's Help to Buy scheme.

One third of homes at Lakeside have been purchased under the scheme.

Bellway sales and marketing director Stephen Rose said: "Lakeside has been one of our West Midlands division's flagship developments ever since we started work on site in 2009.It is exciting to see everybody's hard work and dedication come to fruition as we get ever closer to completing our work at the development.

"The mixture of homes at Lakeside has held strong appeal among first-time buyers and families looking for a home with more space.

"The Help to Buy scheme has had an immeasurable impact here in the West Midlands. For many people it has made buying a home cheaper than renting and it has made their dreams of owning their own home a reality.

"We are extremely proud of what we have achieved here.

"We have transformed what was a rundown, disused site into a striking selection of new homes, which have catered for a wide range of buyers."

Lakeside has also funded substantial investment in the local community in the form of Section 106 contributions.

As part of the planning agreement for the development, Bellway invested more than £635,000, including £305,000 towards local sports pitches and changing room, and £155,000 towards the maintenance of open space on the site.

Work started on site in 2009 and now only one property remains to be sold.
