Members of the Glorishears of Brummagem, Amanda Wearing and Geraldine Cale, suffered cuts and bruising when the Staffordshire bull terrier called Mia struck during the annual parade on April 24.

Unemployed Matthew Spooner, 35, of Burrowes Street, Birchills, in Walsall, admitted two counts of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

Mr Ian Henery, defending, told the court that he had since given Mia dog away to a group of travellers and that the animal seized afterwards by the police was its twin sister Tia.

The matter was adjourned until June 3 for reports and for further inquiries to be made about the identity of the dog seized by West Midlands Police.

Performers had gathered in St Paul's Street for the festival that marks the 800-year-old market's contribution to civic life. The parade was delayed for around 15 minutes after the attack.
