The estate gardens will be open from 7pm until sunset free of charge and ahead of the lighting, members of Stafford Military Wives Choir will perform on the mansion house steps.

The special gas-fuelled Beacon, with a unique burner head in the shape of a V for victory, will be set up at the front of the mansion.

A bugler from Stafford Drum Corps will perform a general salute before the tribute is read by Staffordshire County Council chairman Ian Lawson.

The beacons will be lit at 9.32pm throughout the country, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, following the lighting of the Principal Beacon outside Windsor Castle by the Queen.

VE Day marks the official end of hostilities in Europe for the Second World War following the formal unconditional surrender of the German forces. A beacon will also be lit on the Rowley Hills.
