Burst sewage pipe to delay work programme
A burst sewage pipe caused problems in a Staffordshire village today.
The burst happened at the junction of St Thomas Lane and Baswich Lane in Baswich on the outskirts of Stafford and is expected to delay the completion of a three-week works programme to replace water and sewer pipes in the area.
Severn Trent Water started work earlier this week to install a large sewer pipe on Baswich Lane.
Adam Walker, the company's programme engineer, said: "Unfortunately this caused some sewer flooding in St Thomas Priory.
"We currently have a number of tankers moving the waste water away from the area via our sewage pumping station on Tixall Road, where it can continue its journey to the local sewage treatment works.
"We're working very closely with the Environment Agency and Staffordshire County Council. We apologise for any inconvenience and would like to thank local residents for their cooperation while we work as hard we can to fix the problem."
