Henry's an idiot, says Colly in Twitter spat

Former Wolves captain Karl Henry and Cannock-born Stan Collymore traded online blows in an unlikely Twitter spat about politics.

Footballers are not traditionally known for expressing political views but after Henry revealed his right-of-centre leanings Collymore sparked a bitter row.

Collymore labelled Ashmore Park-born Henry a 'sell out' and called him an idiot after Henry suggested he was a Tory voter.

Henry said Collymore – who just hours earlier had been embroiled in another Twitter squabble with X Factor winner Steve Brookstein – was 'embarrassing'.

Collymore later deleted all of his tweets to both Henry and Brookstein.

The blue touch paper was lit when Henry, who now plays for QPR, criticised Labour policy following the live leaders debate this week.

Henry tweeted: "Clear message from Labour: If you do well for yourself, we'll take it all from you and give it to those who haven't."

He added the hashtag 'Vote Conservative'.

Collymore replied: "It's called cohesive society Karl. The greater good, not about personal greed. Surprised considering where you're from."

From there the football stars descended into a stormy class debate.

Henry said: "Please tell me the views I should have, based on where I'm from? Is it 'council estate' = 'vote Labour' by any chance?

"Say what you will to please the masses. Why don't you donate your salary to those in need?

"Do you seriously want credit for these things? Stop embarrassing yourself."

Henry played for Wolves from 2006 and 2013, making 272 appearances for his hometown club.

It is not his first Twitter controversy - last year he said ex Wolves teammate Wayne Hennessey had been 'treated like s***' by manager Kenny Jackett.

Collymore said Henry was an 'idiot'.

He added: "My views haven't changed in 30 years. I live my views, not change them from Ashmore Park to having a few pounds in my pocket. Sell out.

"I'll keep sticking to what I've done over 30 years and backing it up with facts. You continue to be a working class sell out.
