Cardiology, haematology and pathology will join paediatric services in the list of departments moving out of the hospital this year.

The date that children's inpatient services will cease was revealed as May 18 during a meeting of Cannock Chase Council's health scrutiny committee this week.

It will then be split between Royal Stoke University Hospital and New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

Members of the committee have also been told cardiology, haematology and pathology will be transferred in the summer too.

Health boss Mr Sultan Mahmud said: "The changes will strengthen the teams (departments)."

He added morale amongst staff who had been transferred was 'very high'.

County Hospital is now run by the new University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust after a merger with the University Hospital of North Staffordshire Trust in an entire process costing £19.5 million.
