A building at St George's Hospital, Corporation Street, had to be evacuated after the blaze, which involved a floor rug, started in a patient's bedroom at around 10.30pm yesterday.
Staff managed to tackle the blaze with a fire extinguisher before crews arrived.
The fire is believed to have caused a small amount of damage to the bedroom and left the rest of the building smoke-logged.
A small number of people suffered smoke inhalation.
