As part of a planning application to build 41 houses on the Rakegate estate in Oxley planners agreed to fund the renovation of grassland between St Anne's Road and Stafford Road.

That £2,500 funding has now been finalised.

The floral area will now be preserved and used for educational visits from nearby schoolchildren, while a play area will also be built.

Oxley councillor Ian Claymore welcomed the move and said: "This can only be described as a win-win situation.

"Once it's up and running the community - including pupils from primary and secondary schools - can use this facility.

"When you've got this in a residential area it makes a big difference."

The funding was approved at a policy committee meeting.
