Appeal launched after Smethwick hit and run leaves motorcyclist with facial fractures
A motorcyclist who suffered head injuries was left at the scene of a collision, in a hit and run incident in Smethwick.
The car struck the motorcyclist at the junction of Astbury Avenue and Mill Hill at around 1.20pm on Sunday, February 15.
The 21-year-old motorcyclist was rushed to hospital where he received treatment to facial fractures, but was later released to recover at home.
Witnesses at the scene told how the car was travelling in the direction of Church Road, having initially travelled from the direction of Stanhope Road, and drove off along Astbury Avenue following the collision.
Witnesses described the car as a dark coloured, new saloon, possibly a VW Passat.
PC Julian Holt, from the force's Traffic Unit, said: "Thankfully the motorcyclist's injuries are not as severe as we first feared but that does not change the fact that the driver of this car struck another vehicle, leaving its rider injured on the road, and then drove off.
"We want to speak to anyone who knows anything about the collision - be it someone who has seen a car, with damage, matching the description or a mechanic who has been asked to repair such a vehicle since Sunday afternoon."
Anyone with information should call the force Traffic Unit by dialling 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
