Dudley Council to spend £140k CUTTING costs
Dudley Council will spend £140,000 on cost-cutting schemes aimed at slashing its energy and water bills under new plans.
Swimming pool covers for the borough's leisure centres, new heating systems and energy efficient lighting are among the measures planned.
The council is also considered additional insulation at its buildings to help reduce costs.
It comes after the council appointed an 'energy manager' tasked with cutting its annual £7million bill for the 800 properties it owns across the borough.
Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environment and culture, said the money spent on the schemes would be recouped through the savings in the future.

"We are pleased to be bringing forward a number of initiatives that will help reduce the council's energy bills which will save money and also make us more energy efficient.
"Schemes we are due to start work on in the next few weeks include introducing new energy efficient lighting at Brierley Hill Library, and swimming pool covers at our leisure centres.
"Additionally, the air handling system at Dudley leisure centre is due to be updated. Further consideration is being given to the level of insulation in all major council buildings, along with existing heating systems and controls. The initial £140,000 investment in schemes of this nature will be recovered through the savings they will create each year," she added.
The council is also considering proposals to turn off some street lights after midnight to reduce energy bills from 2016.
