Lorry driver taken to hospital as M54 crash closes motorway
Two lorry drivers were treated by paramedics this morning following a crash which saw the M54 closed shortly before rush hour.
The motorway was closed for around two hours following the smash between two lorries. The crash took place on the westbound carriageway near Coven between junctions 2 and 3 of the motorway just after 6am.
One one of the lorry drivers - a man thought to be in his 40s - was trapped in his vehicle. He was released and treated on scene before being taken to New Cross Hospital.
The Highways Agency began reopening lanes at around 8.10am.
The closure saw delays spread to areas between Cannock and Gailey and on the M6 between junctions 11 and 12. M54 Junctions for Albrighton and Wolverhampton were also affected.
West Midlands Ambulance communications officer Steve Parry said: "Crews responded to a road traffic collision involving two HGVs.
"A man, believed to be in his forties, was trapped in his lorry. He was later released and treated for minor injuries before being taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton for further assessment and treatment.
"The driver of the second vehicle involved was assessed at the scene before being released."
