The project in Milford along Main Road was due to take place next month but will now begin on Monday.

Gareth Mead from Severn Trent Water said: "This work is part of the wider £15 million project in Stafford to help prevent leaks and bursts in the area and to support future growth.

"Part of the new water pipe that we need to lay will go across the entrance to Shugborough Hall.

"Obviously we don't want to cause any disruption to the hall or its visitors, so we've brought this part of the work forward so that it can be done now while it's closed for the winter."

Temporary traffic lights will be installed. The work outside Shugborough is due to last five weeks.

Shugborough reopens after the winter break on March 13.
