Inquests opened in to Stafford firework factory blaze deaths

The inquests into the deaths of two men killed in a firework explosion in Stafford have been opened.

Worker Simon Hillier and customer Stewart Gordon Staples died in the blaze at SP Plastics on Tilcon Avenue on October 30.

Deputy coroner Louise McCabe opened the inquests at Cannock Coroners Court yesterday.

Mr Hillier, 41, from Mountside Street in Hednesford and father of three, Mr Staples 57, from Cannock were both identified by DNA after two bodies were found in the aftermath of the blaze on Baswich Lane Industrial Estate.

The cause of their deaths is still unknown and the inquests were adjourned until next April.
