Busy road blocked after car overturns

A busy road in Wyre Forest has been blocked after a car overturned.

The crash happened just before 2.30pm on A449 Wolverhampton road in Cookley, when a Citroen Xsara hit a kerb and flipped over and landed on its side.

Police and ambulance are on the scene, near the Island Pool pub, but the driver was out of the car when they arrived, and he is not thought to have serious injuries.

Sophie Flynn, for West Mercia Police, said: "We were called at 2.30pm to a road traffic collision, near Island Pool.

"It appears the driver had hit the kerb and overturned. The road is blocked."

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle to the scene.

The area is known as an accident blackspot, and in December 2012 a woman died in a crash on the same round.

Samantha Jennings, a 26-year-old mother-of-two, died in the crash which was also near to the Island Pool pub.
