Four arrested after two men are attacked in West Bromwich
Four people have been arrested after two men were attacked, leaving one of them critically injured, in West Bromwich early this morning.
Police were called to Jervoise Lane, Stone Cross, at around 12.50am to a report that a man was collapsed in the street, after being assaulted.
Officers arrived a short time later to discover a man, in his 30s, with a serious head injury, along with a second assault victim, also in his 30s.
The men were rushed to hospital where one remains in a critical condition. His friend's injuries were not as serious and he was discharged following treatment.
DC Pete Miller from Force CID in Smethwick is investigating the attack. He said: "The men appear to have been approached while walking home along Jervoise Lane.
"We believe that the offenders may well have been attempting to rob them but ran off without anything.
"The man's injuries are quite serious and he is in hospital in a critical condition at this time.
"We need to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen the attack or people running away from the scene."
Police detained four men, aged 17, 18, 19 and 20, a short distance away moments after the attack. They were all arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody.
