Kieran Lang sold a mobile phone to buy liquor and spent day with the girls drinking it, Stafford Crown Court heard.

They climbed over a fence in to Victoria Park where Lang had sex with one of the youngsters.

Later on, at a flat in the town, Lang had sex with the other girl.

Lang, aged 20, of Swinbourne Close, Stafford, who admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child, was sentenced to youth custody.

Judge Paul Glenn told him: "Your plea has saved these girls from giving evidence. Both of these girls were 14, you were nearly 19. The man you were with on that day had told you they were too young for you, in graphic terms 'jail bait'.

"You were perfectly happy, as the evening progressed, to take advantage of their plainly drunken condition and you had supplied the alcohol."

Miss Lynette McClement, prosecuting, said Lang and a friend met the girls in May last year in Stafford town centre and they went to Victoria Park.

During the afternoon, Lang went off and sold a mobile phone, spending the money on gin, rum and vodka which the group drank at Doxey marshes.

When they returned to the park, it was closed, but they climbed through a fence. Lang and one of the girls went off hand-in-hand and returned 20 minutes later, the girl appearing shocked and emotional. Lang told his friend they had just had sex.

After moving on to a flat, Lang turned his attentions to the other girl, whom he led out of the lounge.

Miss McClement added: "Both girls were adamant they did not say 'no'. Both drank voluntarily and both say they consented to sex."

After his arrest, Lang initially denied any sexual contact with the girls, then claimed he thought they were over 16.

Mr Anthony Bell, defending, said: "This was a situation which developed, it wasn't planned at the beginning of the day. This isn't a man who identified two vulnerable young girls and set about having his way with them. Taking the alcohol was not a ploy by him. Both girls were willing participants. Inmaturity has played a part in this - he was only 18 at the time."
