Part of Baggeridge Country Park was closed today after thieves broke into a tea room.

The cafe was broken into last night, with tills forced open and money taken.

Manager Dave Daly said it had cost the venue £1,000 in total through money stolen and damage to the building.

A fire door was removed from its hinges, the room smashed, phone lines ripped out and tills forced open during the raid.

Mr Daly said he found a till in the grounds nearby, as well as a mountain bike.

"They must have been spooked and left in a rush.

"It's so disappointing.

"We've had to close today - there are no phonelines and the fire door has gone so we just can't open."
