Parents charged with 22-month-old's murder

The parents of a 22-month-old boy from the West Midlands who died from abdominal injuries were appearing in court today charged with murder.

Mark Piper and Danielle Cassin were due at Birmingham Magistrates' Court today accused of killing Levi Blu Cassin, who died in February last year.

Piper, 31, of Helmes Close, Handsworth Wood, and Cassin, 26, of Frensham Close, Chelmsley Wood, have also been charged with neglect and causing or allowing the death of a child, West Midlands Police said.

Levi was found dead by paramedics at an address on Nightingale Avenue, Castle Bromwich, on the morning of February 20, 2013.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died as a result of substantial abdominal injuries.
