Stafford College has started a consultation over proposed job losses after its funding was reduced by £1 million to £19 million for 2014-15.

The college, in Earl Street, is one of the town's biggest employers with 630 members of staff but has said it has no plans to close any courses.

Around half of the job losses are expected to be made voluntarily with senior management and administrative positions most likely to be under threat.

Principal Beverley Smith said: "We are making every effort to reduce the need for compulsory job losses although some will be unavoidable.

"Our priority remains the provision of excellent teaching and superb support for achievement by our students. Senior management and administrative positions are therefore significant areas for review."
